Sinopsis:
- Imágenes de un festival de raquetistas de nieve en Sherbrooke, Quebec. Detalles culturales en los primeros años incluyendo carreras con raquetas de nieve y atracciones musicales.
With great authenticity and spontaneity, Les raquetteurs records the celebration and ritual surrounding a snowshoe competition in Sherbrooke in the late 1950s. The film marked the beginning of a new approach to reality in documentary and prefigures the trademark style of the NFB's newly formed French Unit. Today, Les raquetteurs is considered a precursor to the birth of direct cinema. - NFB
A classic of cinéma vérité, Les Raquetteurs documents a 1958 snowshoers’ conference in Sherbrooke. Everything is so faithfully captured by the camera the snowshoe races, the spectators’ and competitors’ behaviour, the parade of snowshoers with young girls dressed in their finest, the dancers and musicians trying to outdo each other in skill and inventiveness that the film could almost be called an ethnographic document. Impressed by Les Raquetteurs, Jean Rouch invited Michel Brault to work on the shoot of Chronique d’un été in 1960.
