[fuente] El film nace a partir de una entrevista que le concedió Yehuda Lerner a Claude Lanzmann en 1979, durante el rodaje de "Shoah", su famosa película de 1985 acerca de la barbarie nazi. Sobibor se ocupa de narrar la única revuelta exitosa que hubo en un campo de exterminio: en ella, una veintena de prisioneros judíos mataron a hachazos a 16 oficiales alemanes, cortaron la luz y la electricidad y consiguieron darse a la fuga.

En este documental se puede desarrollar un estudio sobre la violencia intrínseca del hombre; como veremos, el testimonio de Yehuda Lerner (prisionero de diversos campos de concentración-exterminio nazis) nos ayudará a comprender en qué circunstancias la violencia como forma de defensa es legítima por parte de la víctima. Veremos en su amplia entrevista con Lanzmann los principales razonamientos que expone para justificar su conducta y también la del resto de los prisioneros de los campos de exterminio contra los oficiales y soldados nazis; no cabe duda de que sus argumentos son irrefutables en la totalidad, juzguen ustedes mismos si las acciones que llevaron a cabo son o no humanas, para poder sobrevivir y escapar del campo.

En Cineclube de Compostela se escribió:El título del film hace referencia a la revuelta de Sobibor, uno de los dos levantamientos dentro de un campo de exterminio nazi que se produjeron durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial (el otro fue el de Treblinka el 2 de agosto de 1943). En Sobibor fueron asesinadas casi 250.000 personas y en el momento de la rebelión su población era de 600 prisioneros. Entre los supervivientes estuvo Yehuda Lerner, que tenía entonces 17 años y ya se había fugado de ocho campos de concentración antes. Lerner fue entrevistado en 1979 por Lanzmann durante el rodaje de su film sobre el holocausto Shoah, pero su historia quedó fuera del film y no fue hasta 2001 cuando el cineasta la recuperó para contar Sobibór, 14 de octubre ..., mezclando su testimonio con nuevo material fílmico.

Claude Lanzmann a rencontré Yehuda Lerner pendant le tournage de Shoah, à Jérusalem en 1979. Dans ce documentaire, ce dernier s'est confié au réalisateur.

AMG SYNOPSIS: Sobibor, Oct. 14, 1943, 4 P.M. is an earnest journalistic endeavor, an important historical document, and a weighty account of a true story that merits public attention. It is not, however, an entertaining movie. Claude Lanzmann should be commended for recording Yehuda Lerner's description of his wartime experiences for posterity; furthermore, Lanzmann's decision to maintain a somber, almost meditative tone throughout the film is perfectly understandable given the subject matter. But the movie is rather dull to watch. Since Lanzmann couldn't base the film's visuals on archival footage of the Sobibor camp, he chose to rely on contemporary footage of the area and the train route that Lerner traveled to get there. This footage lacks a sense of immediacy or visceral impact, a problem that is exacerbated by the documentary's slow pace. The movie also relies heavily on interview footage of Lerner, whose impassive demeanor and subdued voice aren't particularly griping, although his comments demonstrate that he has both insight and a sense of humor. Unfortunately, the film's pace is slackened by the inclusion of both Lerner's comments in Hebrew and the translator's comments in French, which seems particularly gratuitous if you're watching the movie with English subtitles. The slowest part of the documentary, however, is its conclusion; it features a lengthy voice-over recitation of the numbers of victims brought at various times to Nazi concentration camps, accompanied only by the same list printed on the screen. This conclusion is indicative of Lanzmann's apparent belief that the gravity of his subject matter justifies occasionally lugubrious filmmaking. How much you appreciate his movie may depend on how much you agree with this attitude. -- Todd Kristel
