Sinopsis:
- En el remoto refugio alpino del Nido del Águila, Eva Braun (Elena Rufanova) recibe la visita de su amante. Hitler (Leonid Mozgovoi) llega acompañado de sus más fieles colaboradores, entre ellos el contrahecho Joseph Goebbels (Leonid Sokol), su esposa Magda (Elena Spiridonova) y el ambicioso y autoritario Martin Bormann (Vladimir Bogdanov). Pasan un día de descanso entre comidas vegetarianas, paseos y danzas grotescas por la montaña, todo salpicado por paradójicas discusiones que contribuyen a dibujar la figura de un dictador decadente, paranoico e infantiloide, rodeado de un grupo servil y envidioso. Un cuadro de banalidad y mezquindad cotidiana, en vísperas de la derrota nazi en el frente soviético, con el espectro de la muerte y la soledad sobrevolando el conjunto.

Selon les souvenirs de l'époque, Eva Braun était une femme capable de se sacrifier par amour. C'est ainsi qu'elle est devenue un pesonnage de tragédie. Elle est le personnage principal du film.''
Alpi bavaresi, primavera 1942. In un castello isolato in cima ad una collina avvolta nelle nebbie Eva Braun accoglie ospiti importanti: il 'suo' Adolf Hitler, il consigliere Martin Bormann con il segretario, Joseph Goebbels con la moglie Magda. Poco dopo l'arrivo, Hitler si mette a letto: è convinto di avere il cancro, ma Eva con decisione gli fa capire che non è vero. Quando sono a tavola per il pranzo, Hitler dice che si dovrà dichiarare guerra all'Italia, poi si addormenta. Più tardi arriva un sacerdote e a lui il Fuhrer comunica il proprio pensiero: quelli che adorano un uomo morto in croce non vogliono morire. In un salone attiguo Hitler va subito dopo a vedere un filmato a 16 mm. sulle operazioni di guerra contro l'URSS e le riprese di un concerto sinfonico. Arriva così l'ora di cena, e tutti si siedono di nuovo a tavola. Si parla di donne e di altro. Ad un certo punto, Magda saluta e va a dormire. Lo stesso fa Hitler poco dopo. In stanza c'è anche Eva, che gli dice: "E' per timore della banalità che sei diventato così duro". E poi gli confessa i propri tradimenti. La mattina dopo Hitler e il suo seguito ripartono. "La vacuità dei discorsi, l'orribile pretesa di eliminare la paura della morte, la strana luce opaca e glauca degli ambienti, la qualità pittorica delle immagini, gli attori teatrali russi benissimo scelti, l'egoismo domestico del tiranno, danno un'idea inedita e insieme singolarmente familiare del mostro divinizzato avido di sacrifici umani, appunto Moloch o Hitler. Sokurov raggiunge l'altezza espressiva del suo precedente bellissimo 'Madre e figlio'; il film è prodotto anche da Fabrica di Luciano Benetton, con la sovrintendenza di Marco Muller". AMG SYNOPSIS: Each film of Alexandre Sokurov, considered by many the living Andrei Tarkovsky of the Russian cinema, is a new revelation. Moloch's narrative structure is based on the relationship between one of the most important figures of the twentieth century, Adolf Hitler, and the only person who ever dared to contradict him, his beloved Eva Braun. The year is 1942. On the majestic terraces of the ominous fortress of Berchtesgaden, perched above the Bavarian Alps, a woman prances in the nude, waving randomly at the spying telescopes. This is the restless Eva (Elena Rufanova), who is waiting for her beloved "Adi," the Fuhrer (Leonid Mosgovoi), who arrives with a thunder and bolt. In his entourage are his right-hand man Martin Bormann and his propaganda specialist Joseph Goebbels with his loving wife, Magda. The scene is set for a peaceful retreat of several hours. However, an uncontrollable war is raging in the heart of Eva, who is caught in the complexities of a man incapable of intimacy. Rather than a historical treatise, the film is a psychological study of the man who was the terror of the twentieth century and the person who was the closest to him. The clue to how it all happened seems to be hidden in some of the intimate moments between the two characters. Sokurov is dealing with a very sensitive subject in a film which is a complex reflection on power. Each frame carries the mark of his previous nine films and is a testimony to his meticulous art. Moloch is a very powerful film that gives the impression that time is suspended. Particularly for this reason, it is not recommended to those who like their cinema fast paced and light-hearted. Sokurov used Russian theater actors from St. Petersburg to shoot the film, but their voices were later dubbed by theater actors from Berlin.
